Dynamo Bow to a Superior WoW

Team WoW 6 - 3 Dynamo
(Thompson 2, Gale, Schaap, Kidd, Scott)

Team WoW may have been missing Sol, but they certainly showed heart in their opening game of the season; edging out a resistant Dynamo side 6-3. A capacity Aurora Stadium crowd witnessed the thriller, which boasted class, courage and a flurry of devastating nutmegs. Dynamo put up a strong fight, but the result was rarely in doubt; Team WoW with a convincing display to take all three points.

The scoring was opened after just 3 minutes; a sleek Thompson kick-in found Scott, who flicked the ball in the direction of an unmarked Gale for a satisfying finish. Team WoW then pushed for a second, and Thompson produced it just four minutes later with solid drive from well outside the box. The score looked to be staying that way until half time until Scott found his second, and arguably better, assist of the night - unfortunately it was for the other team. It was his first touch after coming on for Alex Kidd; and it dashed any chance of a Dynamo donut. Still, the story of the first half was not over; Schaap fired in a long range effort from a Darling corner just before the break.

The second half opened with some sleek Team WoW futsal, but they were the first to concede; and in some style. The Dynamo striker managed to perpetrate an epic double nutter on Schaap and Riske with a quality effort from long range. Fears rose in the Team WoW camp as it looked, for a few short moments, as if a resurgent Dynamo might nick a point. Alex Kidd put these fears to bed, however, with incredible composure. The new signing proved embittered former striker Jonathon Bryan's lack of confidence to be entirely unwarranted with what was perhaps the goal of the night. The 18 year old latched onto a loose ball and rounded the keeper before slotting the ball into an empty net. Scott was the next to get his name on the score sheet; tapping in after the keeper fumbled a venomous Thompson strike. Dynamo rallied to grab a third before Thompson capped off the night with his second - and Team WoW's sixth; a mazy run finished off by a polished left-footed strike.

A solid performance was put in by the entire Team WoW squad; with no clear standouts. Captain Andy Thompson just edged the Man of the Match award for his brace of goals and some diligent defending. "I'm delighted with the win," he commented in a post match interview. "We were a little rusty, but we all worked hard out there and I think we got the result we deserved." Thompson also gave credit to the opposition for their solid defending and fair play; "they're a quality side, and they're also a respectful side; that's a rare combination in futsal."

The 6 - 3 victory sees Team WoW catapult to the top of the ladder. The side will be in action again next Sunday.
