Team WoW on Struggle Street
Team WoW 5
Pig Dogz F.C. 7
(Bryan 2, Gale, Koolhof, Parrott)
In another disappointing result for the club, Team WoW gave up a lead to lose for the second successive match. The game marked the return of fan favourite Jordan Scott from illness, though he failed to trouble the scorers on the night.
Iain Koolhof wasted no time in opening the scoring for Team WoW, as Jonathon Bryan set him up to send the keeper the wrong way. Bryan was then on the end of a perfectly weighted chipped through-ball from Tim Parrott, and managed to knock it past the keeper for 2-0. Confidence running high, he was able to push past several opponents, definitely getting a nutmeg in there somewhere I'm pretty sure guys, before notching his second. As the old saying goes though: too much confidence can result in spending too long on the ball in the midfield, getting dispossessed and costing your side a goal, and this is exactly what happened to Bryan to make the score 3-1.
Pig Dogz scored a lot of goals in the second half and generally played better, as Team WoW (most notably Bryan and Scott) struggled to keep up with the pace of the game. The defense was not playing poorly, but a lack of forward pressure afforded Pig Dogz too much time and space. Tim Parrott was playing some inspired passes into dangerous areas, but the chances were squandered and forwards were shut down. At 6-3, the game was looking over until Parrott's shot from halfway caught the keeper off his line. Soon after, Phil Gale's shot (from a Parrott corner) hit the roof of the net at pace, and it was game on
As time ran out, the opposition found themselves with a number of corners, which were rudely hit as hard as possible at the Team WoW boys after a massive run up. Team WoW were able to get one last counter attack, but Bryan failed to capitalise as his pass was intercepted. Pig Dogz scored in the final 10 seconds to seal the game.

Team WoW Overrun
Team WoW 2
Ivory Toast 8
(Bryan, Parrott)
Ivory Toast ran rampant in the second half as Team WoW ran out of steam to record an embarrassing loss. Serious questions were directed at the squad for their apparent lack of fitness, as the team repeatedly let the opposition push past the normally sold defense with ease. Rob Schaap made his first appearance for the club in several seasons, while Andy Thompson was again ruled out, and Jordan Scott decided he had 'better things to do with his life than play a stupid futsal game, what is futsal when compared to eternal salvation man?'. (just kidding, he's still sick.)
The match started brightly for the Taroona based club, as Ivory Toast commenced the game with only 4 players. After squandering a golden chance from a Tim Parrott pass, Jonathon Bryan immediately redeemed himself by opening the scoring with a rocket from long range, curling into the top left corner. It seemed too easy for Team WoW as they continued to attack, but missed a number of chances in the subsequent play and were dismayed when the fifth member of Toast d'Ivoire turned up before they could capitalize further. A goal was almost immediately conceded as the opposition found their feet, and only a number of brilliant saves from Rick Nettlefold kept the score even. Chances were had at both ends, but it was Parrott with a moment of brilliance who put the boys in front. The ball came to him on the wing from a counter attack, and he hit it first time into the far corner, rendering the keeper powerless in every way. The lead would not last, however, and the half time whistle blew with the score at 2-2.
An early blow was felt once the second half started, Ivory Toast easily running through the defense. From then, an immense arm wrestle began, as Ivory Toast looked to kill the game off while Team WoW searched for an equaliser. Iain Koolhof came close, and Parrott shot just wide before remarkably hitting both posts - the ball stayed out. Nettlefold was called upon to make stop after stop, until he was finally beaten midway through the half, and from that point the life seemed to drain out of Team WoW as things got nasty. Ivory Toast scored goal after goal in the final 5 minutes, and ended the game as a thrashing, Team WoW going down 8-2.
Note: footage of the first half is shown, since that's where we got our goals!

Winning Start as Team WoW Edge Jess' Giants
Team WoW 3
Jess' Giants 2
(Bryan, Gale, Parrott)
Team WoW's 2014 campaign got of to a winning start tonight, despite missing key players Andy Thompson (ankle) and Jordan Scott (mild cough). Iain Koolhof made his long awaited return for the club after at least 2 seasons away from the game, while winter signing Tim Parrott was cleared to play by medical staff, despite arriving from his European transfer yesterday. A reinvigorated Rick Nettlefold took to the court as first choice keeper, replacing Team WoW stalwart Michael Riske between the posts.
The boys got off to a bright start, dominating play for the first 5 minutes, and soon had the ball in the back of the net, a neat passing move ending at the feet of Jonathon Bryan for a tap-in. The opposition soon found their feet however, and crafted a number of chances that called upon Nettlefold's reflexes. The energetic keeper was up to the challenge, producing a number of fine stops.
Midway through the first half, Jess' Giants equalised - after a succession of saves from Nettlefold and some frantic action in the box, the ball bounced out to the edge of the area where an opposition player was waiting to chip it in, the shot catching the defence unaware.
Another fine passing move saw Team WoW take the lead into half time. Alex Kidd was instrumental, playing a one-two with Bryan from the back before setting up the chance for Parrott, who opened his Team WoW account for 2014 with a clinical finish.
Phil Gale opened the scoring in the second half as Team WoW looked to push on, his fine strike to the bottom corner unstoppable. Jess' Giants pulled one back with 5 minutes remaining but Team WoW held on for a valuable win.
Injured star Sol Foster, watching from the stands, was impressed with the side's performance. "They scored some lovely goals tonight, and showed resilience in defence when pressed at the end there. Obviously if I'd been fit I would have put a lot more goals away, but its a good win", he may or may not have told journalists in a press-conference post match.
