Team WoW 12 - 4 Teim 031
(Foster 4!, Thompson 3, Bryan 2, Scott, Gale, Schaap)
Team WoW made it three in a row tonight with a stunning 12 - 4 win over Teim 031. A capacity Aurora crowd braved blistering temperatures to catch a glimpse of Jono Bryan as he played his first game in over a year. Phil Gale and Sol Foster also returned for the encounter, adding further strength to a Team WoW side already set to go all the way.
Team WoW came out all guns blazing. Foster showed he hadn't forgotten where the net was after firing one home from close range. Teim 031, however, were soon back in it; eluding some half-hearted tackles to send one past Riske. Gale was next to find the net for Team WoW; making it 2 - 1 with a cool finish to an inviting ball from Bryan. Again, however, Teim 031 refused to lie down, a blistering strike beat Riske down low. I think the next goal was from Robbie...
Team WoW sacrificed the team talk for some icy blasts from the squirt bottle at half time - such was the heat. Despite this precaution, several players looked in serious danger of heat stroke.
Whether it was something in the water or something else, futsal analyst Peter Thompson is still investigating, but one thing is for sure; Team WoW went from hot to sweltering in the second half - on the court that is. Foster was probably the first to smash one in after the break; taking his personal tally to two for the night. The next two went to golden boy Bryan on his return. The first was an exquisite half volleyed finish to a sublime Foster to ball. The second was a cheeky steal from the keeper topped with a delicious finish; 6 - 2. Teim 031 rallied and slotted home two quick ones. These might have come before Bryan's actually...Anyway, Thompson made it 7 - 2, then 8 - 2 with some mazey runs and glorious strikes. Actually I'm almost certain at least one of these came in the first half. Scott made Teim 031 pay for some poor defending with a neat tackle on the last man before firing home from close range. Foster bagged another couple. The first showcased some supreme ownage on at least two defenders and a composed, tight angled finish. The second was a freakin ripper. Thompson sealed the night with his hattrick and Team WoW's twelfth; he ghosted Schaap before emerging and smashing the ball home.
The captain was delighted with his team's efforts. "Well, they say it's a game of two halves," he commented after the game. "And that certainly proved to be the case today. It was tight in the beginning but we smashed 'em in the end." Aside from the flurry of goals, strong defending, particularly by Kidd, who earned man of the match for his efforts, and solid keeping from Riske contributed to the win.
This result leaves Team WoW top of the table at the halfway point. See them in action again next week.
what a mess this write up is. then again, its hard to keep track of 12 goals. i scored in the first half, all i'm saying...
