Team WoW 10 - 0 Final Solution
(Schaap 3, Darling 2, Thompson 2, Foster 2, Kidd)
Team WoW cruised to their second consecutive win of the season tonight, thrashing their opponents in a game that put the 'O' in Final SolutiOn. Ten goals were racked up in the encounter, but not one breached the Team WoW net; goalkeeper Michael Riske was in stunning form between the posts. Attacks were few and far between from the not at all aptly named Final Solution; the team's playing style bore little if any resemblance to Adolf Hitler's atrocious systematic genocide of the Jews during World War II. Meanwhile, Team WoW's chemistry was brought to a whole new level, with crisp passing ensuring they dominated possession for lengthy periods. Sol Foster returned for the game while Iain Koolhof was left out for personal reasons.
Team WoW showed they were up for the game from the very beginning; the first chance falling to a goal hungry Scott inside the first 15 seconds. Scott won the ball off the defender, but his long-range drive only tested the post. Only 30 seconds later the game had it's first goal. Some persistent work by Scott eventually saw him square the ball to an unmarked Alex Kidd for his second of the season. Wil Darling was the second to get his name on the score sheet; some neat footwork put him one on one with the keeper - a powerful finish left him no chance. Number three came close to the end of the half; Robbie Shaap let loose from range.
The message of the half-time team talk was simple: more of the same - and that's exactly what Team WoW did. Schaap netted his second of the night after 3 minutes; another long-range drive proved too much for the keeper to handle. Thompson soon after made it 5 - 0 with a Suarez-esque mazy run followed by a thunderous strike. Foster then pulled himself into the game with two goals in quick succession - followed by two misses from arguably better positions. Schaap completed his hattrick not long after with a nonchalant flick that put Newtonian physics to shame. The deftest of touches swerved around the keeper - and it took Foster every ounce of moral courage within him to not tap the ball over the line for his own hattrick. Thompson found his fifth of the season with a glorious strike from range two minutes later; the keeper got hands to it but could not prevent it from crossing the line. The victory was rounded off by a lightning strike from Darling; 10 - 0 the final score.
The game saw Robbie Schaap take out the Man of the Match award. He managed a hattrick of quality goals, five spectacular misses, and no fewer than three 'Asian nutmegs' - the rarest of all. Team Captain Andy Thompson was again delighted with the result. "We really came into our own this week," he commented in a post-match interview. "We were a bit rusty last week, but tonight our passing was crisp and our defence was rock-solid." Indeed, the Team WoW defence had a perfect night; tight marking and take-no-prisoners tackling ensured only a few shots made it to the goal - and these were expertly dealt with by Riske.
The result means Team WoW are 2 for 2 this season. As the first two games are grading matches, this will likely put them in the first division. They will be in action again on the 23rd of October.

A snapshot of Team WoW's chemistry and defending
Just finished watching Mom's footage. Great game. Good write up Jordan but your goal order is all over the place, lol.
ReplyDeleteWe need to get that pole back - 'is Foster's greed justified?'. The amount of greedy he crammed into tonight's 40mins was fairly remarkable.
Huge shout out to Phil for a brutally rock solid defensive game, and man of the match Robbie (Jordan also) for epic sprinting-back-to-defend work.
Rob's goal was easily goal of the match, massive bonus points for making the keeper crawl after the ball... serious ownage.
I need a neuro exam I think. Can't for the life of me remember these post match interviews.
great job boys, but jordan where was the rocket buddy? plus i don't understand the headline, how come there isn't a final solution for team wow? when i first read it, i thought the scoreline would be a draw- that you didn't get the result despite dominating the game. but apparently not. could someone please explain it to me?!??!?!?!?!?!
