Team WoW 9 (? or 8???) - 0 Bangcock Bandits
(Thompson 3/4, Scott 2, Cass 2, Kidd)
Team WoW have taken out their second match of the season comfortably with eight unanswered goals over a poor Bangcock Bandits side. The boys in black had the majority of possession, and the slow pace of the game allowed a ridiculously unfit Jordan Scott to simply meander around the court for lengthy periods. Again Team WoW only fielded five men - including George Cass, who was filling in for a flaky Alec. Again, Rob Schaap, Phil Gale, Wil Darling and Sol Foster were all unavailable.
The game started slowly, with Team WoW playing some decent possession futsal and creating a few quality chances. Andy Thompson was the first to draw blood on the night, but I can't for the life of me remember how. I do, however, remember his second: a stunning rocket into the top right hand corner. Alex Kidd made it three shortly after with a sleek nutmeg from a few yards out. The fourth goal went to Scott. A long throw from Michael Riske eluded the head of Thompson (much the same way sleep eluded Bryan) and bounced through to Scott, who slid to finish from a tight angle with a nutmeg to cap it off. The Bandits created precious few chances in the first period; Cass and Kidd dealt aptly with any threats.
In the second half Team WoW picked up a bit - just momentarily. Thompson completed his hattrick when he grabbed the ball at halfway and took it around a few men before finishing smartly. Cass struck his first of the night from the corner spot; his looping ball in hit the keeper and went in - with Thompson adding a bit of confusion to the proceedings. Scott then hit a stunning half volley for the seventh. Thompson made it eight with a stunning finish to a squared ball from Cass. Cass finished off the night with a crazy run in which he tackled virtually every player on the opposition before smashing the ball into the old onion bag.
Captain Andy Thompson was pleased with teams performance. "I think we did well on the night," the man of the match - for the second game running - commented in a post-match interview. "Yeah, we smashed home eight or nine, but really the best thing was that we just had a lot of fun."
Team WoW will be back at it again same place, same time next week.
