Bryan: a changed man?

When the final buzzer sounded on what was a dismal night for futsal team Purple Rain as they were pummelled at the hands of a relentless Team WoW machine, collective faces turned towards the score-board. It read 21-1. The biggest win in Team WoW history. All outfield players completed hat-tricks... with the exception of one man. Not that long ago, Jonathon Bryan was the team's top scorer, but the form that brought last season's conservative goal scoring average has coninued this week, with the attacker netting just once in Sunday's match. Critics have drawn parallels with Tim Cahill's last year or two at Everton, before he moved to another club (although Cahill is really good at headers). Could the lively forward be seeking glory elsewhere come next season?

According to the man himself, the answer is a resounding no. "Absolutely not, the way the media beats this stuff up is ridiculous. Just because i haven't scored as much recently and they want to make suggestions like that... its absurd," he told the media last night in a press conference. Strike partner Jordan Scott was in agreement, stating that "... his role has clearly changed in the team. He recognises the power of my rocket and my finishing prowess, and knows that to pass to me is the better option in most cases... so he honours the pass. He's more of a playmaker now, and it's understandable that he isn't scoring, he's too busy getting nuts and crafting the perfect ball with his trademark deft touch- preferably at the same time."

The fan reaction has been less positive, with some suggesting the star has "done a Torres" and lost his touch. "Ever since he nutted himself that time last season, it looks like he's scared of scoring," said a girl wearing a Team WoW scarf who was hanging around after the boys won the other night, hoping for Scott's autograph.

Whatever the situation, the vice-captain is sure to give it his all this Sunday, as the season proper gets underway. Don't miss Team WoW in action at Aurora. Time and opponent to be announced.
